Countdown to the Pod Heritage ladies' collection

Jagger burgundy Gallagher Tan
Barefooted ladies of Great Britain.
We know that a good two and a half decades have passed since your feet have felt the comfort of your original Pod Sports and we understand that no other shoe will do. As we celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Pod brand, no longer will you need to rely on 80s' shoe nostalgia because the Pod Heritage ladies' collection is almost here.
Go barefoot no more, let your feet slip into Pod's soft leather comfort; spongy thick crepe soles, smooth full leather linings and soft leather uppers. Pop on a pair of denim slacks and you're good to go.
But remember, if you have got your eye on a pair of of these super retro classics, be sure to get in there fast. Just like our stockists, the Pod Heritage ladies' collection is rather exclusive and only 16 pairs of each style have been made. But there's no need to panic buy just yet, we have it on good authority that the new shipment is currently riding the waves half way across the Indian Ocean and will arrive by the end of this month.
If you would however like to pre-order your pair please feel free to get in touch with us at the Pod Heritage HQ, likewise you can contact one of our independent stockists.
Pod Heritage Podmen giveaway!
As June is our birthday month, we're feeling generous and have these fresh from the cutting room Podmen up for grabs. To claim your free Podman, LIKE the Pod Heritage facebook page to find out more!

The Pod Heritage photo competition: And the winner is....
With all this anticipation the wait is now over and it brings me great pleasure to announce the winning photo. So without further ado, the winner is...(long, dramatic pause..)..
Anton Witter
"Decisions, decisions........So many Pods and only one me! There's always room for some more tho!! It's 1982 all over again!!"

We loved his Odd Pods and think this could be a trend of the future. Who dares to try it out first?!
As requested, one pair of Gallagher Pin-Punch in burgundy are on their way to Anton and judging by his odd Pod situation, stepping outside will only prove to become more taxing. Sorry about that.
Look out for the next Pod Heritage competition on our facebook page.
NEW STOCK:The arrival of the iconic Burgundy Pin-Punch!

It's the moment we have all been waiting for! Following three decades since its original launch, the iconic Gallagher Pin-Punch in our rich burgundy full-grain leather has arrived! And if that wasn't enough to knock your socks off we have new stock of the Gallagher Tan & Navy, Townsend Burgundy, Copper Brown & Navy. Order your pair now for FREE DELIVERY!
The story of the Pin-Punch shoe
One of the very first designs to roll off the Pod production line back in 1976.
Thick crepe soles stitched underneath lovely rich, soft leather uppers with...holes punched through?!
Now, before you think we've gone and ruined a perfectly decent stretch of leather let us explain...
Cast your minds back to that scorching hot summer of '76. To a time where flip-flops and sandals were reserved strictly for folk still wearing flowers in their hair. Meanwhile, us ordinary chaps were forced to grim and bear the sweltering heat in our hard leather traditional shoes. After all, what would nana Pat say if she caught sight of bare feet underneath the dining room table over the
family Sunday roast?
But what to do? Launching a fully enclosed shoe in this heat would be a sure flop.
So, as the launch date was fast approaching and pencils were busy sketching, there came the classic light bulb moment: Make the shoes with holes in! Now we're not daft and weren't about to go mad with the office stapler. Instead, a clever little machine was
used to create just the right size holes, a little bigger than a pin punch.
Simple as it sounds, it caused quite a stir back in the traditional shoe-making town of Rushden, especially what with the choice of bright and bold colours on offer.
But as it took off (and it really did), feet far and wide across Britain enjoyed cool and ventilated feet during those long hot summer days. It was a true revelation. And nana Pat was kept happy too.
And the Quilted design? Well that's a whole other story...
Tell us your Pod memories on the Pod Heritage facebook page.

Don't forget to send us a photo of you in your Pod Heritage shoes before April 1st for your chance to win a FREE pair!

What makes a Pod Heritage shoe?...
The 1977 Jubilee FlagWhilst the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations were in full swing, the Pod men were hard at work putting the finishing touches to their shoes.
Not satisfied until the shoes were absolutely perfect, they wanted a little something extra to give a quirky edge to their already unique design. After much consideration, they decided upon an embroidered Pod woven label to add to the side of each shoe.
However, the factory was unable to make the labels in time for the launch and so, as the Jubilee celebrations came to a close, they stumbled upon a supply of just enough red, white & blue Jubilee ribbon as a very temporary fix.
Unbeknown to them, the Jubilee ribbon was mistaken for the French Tricolor flag which, at that time gave the shoes an added cachet. What started out as a short-term substitute soon became an instrumental feature of the iconic Pod design and so they decided to keep it!
The Natural Rope LaceAlso known as the round woolly lace.
Made by us, especially for your Pods, you won't find it anywhere else.
The Rich Soft LeatherAs the saying goes, "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear".
And quite right.
In fact, the use of soft, colourful quality leathers was one of the main reasons why Pod was brought into the spotlight during the mid 1970s. In those days, you had to break into traditional hard leather shoes and instant comfort as we know it today simply wasn't available. So along came Pod.
Footnote: All in the bag
Since 1976 we've combined soft leather hides and quality materials with our unique bag-lasted construction. So as well as providing your feet with unparalleled comfort, your Pod Heritage shoes will shape to fit the arches of your feet and will mould to your exact pressure points. Your shoes will become unique to you and only you. Man's best friend.
The Heavy Contrast StitchingNot one to blend into the crowd, we like to highlight each individual twist and turn of the Pod design and what better way to outline those elements than with our heavy contrast stitching?
As the original jean shoe, the distinctive twin row stitch-lines can be seen from underneath every pair of Lois and Levi 501s.
Nevermind those three little words, in our books, it's all about those three little letters.
Simplicity in its finest form, need we say any more?
The Thick Crepe SoleA natural shock absorber and insulator, the Pod Heritage crepe exudes quality.
Stitched comfortably underneath our distinctive upper designs, the thick contrasting sole makes our shoes unmistakably Pod.
And the 2ps in a Pod sock print? Well, we couldn't resist!

The original Quilted Pod shoes are back for 2011!
It's the moment we've all been waiting for..the Pod Heritage 2011 collection has arrived!Designs have been taken straight out of the Pod archive and with a little creative direction from the original designer the collection has once again held onto its '76 soul! Last year we saw the return of the Pin-Punch design with its striking white crepe soles. So, which iconic treats have we got in store for you this year?...
The Quilted Townsend shoes
Arguably the most-popular style from back in the day and no doubt the most synonymous style with the Pod brand, the Quilted shoes are finally back on the scene. After receiving a phenomenal amount of requests from our dedicated followers of fashion, we think we've done the original design justice; we've even had the approval from the original Pod men which is nothing to sniff at!Did you know...The Quilted style was commonly known as the Mattress-front to our Northern chums? (looking back that does make more sense!)

The 5-eyelet Chukka boot
Newbie to the Pod Heritage collection, the Wood chukka boot retains all the characteristics that are essential to the make-up of a Pod Heritage shoe. Staying within the handwriting of Pod, the boot incorporates the Heritage branding throughout and has been made with fabulous quality full-grain, waxed & oiled softy leather hides in colours copper brown and willow. Just like the Townsend style, comfort is paramount and so the genuine rubber sole incorporates a hidden EVA midsole for unparalleled cushioning. Happy stylish feet!

Our Royal Invite to the 'Pop on a Pair of Pods' Competition!

'The Wedding of the Year' is almost upon us and to celebrate we're launching our 'Pop on a Pair of Pods' competition.
Now, we realise that many of you will be more anti-establishment than pro-Royal, but any excuse for a celebratory glass of tipple and sausage roll. Oh, and not to mention the additional bank holiday. Thanks again Wills & Kate, and if I didn't mention it before, a big congratulations to you both!...Suddenly I'm feeling rather patriotic.
And, if you're still waiting by the letterbox in anticipation for your Royal summons, it gives me no great pleasure to inform you that it's more than likely lost in the post (along with ours I hasten to add). So, instead, we invite you to join our royal celebration in the form of our first ever 'Pop on a Pair of Pods' competition for a chance to win a pair of our Lennon Union Jack Pod Heritage Pin-Punch shoes - how very apt for the occasion!
What's involved & how to take part...
Whether it's from back in the day or present day, we want to see you in your Pods! E-mail amy@aegisshoes.co.uk your photo or upload it onto the Pod Heritage Facebook page with your name, shoe size and a short decription about the photo and your Pod memories.
The competition is now open until Monday 25th April. We'll announce the lucky winner that same week, who'll receive their lovely new shoes just in time for the Royal shennanigans!
And to start you off here's a couple of our pics...

*Disclaimer. Please note that this is not the real Prince William or Kate Middleton. They are imposters from the Pod office with nothing better to do. Besides, Prince Will would never wear that shirt.*

The Pod Heritage Team's Fifteen Minutes of Fame at the Moda Trade Show
The Pod Heritage team were caught on camera at the last Moda trade show in August. No, it's not what you think...
Video highlights from the show have been uploaded onto the revamped Moda website and 28 seconds in there we are in the background! If you look closely enough you can catch a glimpse of our Bolan Copper Brown shoe sitting comfortably on top of their Pod comic-lined suitcase filled with the original Pod shoe-making tools and equipment.
Ok, so it's not quite fifteen minutes of fame (if we're getting technical about it, it's one second) but it's not often you see your name up in lights!

Now, we're not going to let this newly found fame go to our heads but if you do plan to visit us at the next Moda show in February, you may notice that the Pod team are looking a bit more groomed and coiffed than usual....just in case!
View the Pod profile and find out what's on this February at www.moda-uk.co.uk.

Cross Pod Heritage off your Christmas Card List and Support your local charity!
Yes it's the time of year again that all postmen dread the most, when Christmas cards in abundance flood through your letterbox.
Don't get me wrong, I love nothing more than finding a mountain of Christmas cards on my doormat in the lead up to the festive season, it certainly adds to that warm festive feeling, but unless you're like my Aunty Margaret who insists on making useful, and I use that word lightly, miniature boxes out of the old Christmas cards, they usually end up in the recycling bin.
Not to mention offending the Jones' because you've forgotten to send them a card (we haven't spoken to them in over 5 years after all). And I could quite happily go without the embarrassment of trying to subtly post one through their front door on Christmas Eve, successfully may I add, until their beloved pet terrior decides to yap loudly just as you manage to carefully place the letterbox flap down. Shortly followed by a red-faced acceptance to join the entire family for an uncomfortable glass of mulled wine.
Plus you can't help but feel sorry for those poor trees; believing that one day they will fulfill their destiny to become an expensive coffee table, only to find themselves thrown onto a glittery heap in a recycling bin.
Now, we realise times are hard and we're all feeling the pinch; those pennies just don't seem to stretch as far as they used to. So why not save your pennies by crossing us off your Christmas card list and do something good with your money instead? Charities across the UK are suffering as a direct result of the recession and as much as we do try to support them, there's no denying that the goodwill and generosity that they so heavily rely on from the public is becoming less and less.
So, we ask you to join us in our Christmas plea and cross Pod Heritage off your Christmas card list and support a local charity! Willen Hospice is a charity which is close to our hearts and it is also recognised as an integral part of the local community, so like every year we do our bit to support their fantastic work.

And, if you are still expecting a festive greeting from us, well here it is...
"We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"

Our new and improved Pod Heritage delivery service.
We all know what it's like waiting in for that all important parcel to arrive. And with an ever so helpful 7am-5pm timeslot you and the dog find yourselves under house arrest. After looking out the window every two minutes for the mysterious delivery van, you either acquire a reputation as a 'curtain twitching' nosey neighbour or develop some form of repetitive strain injury.
Thoughts gradually enter your mind; "will it arrive, won't it?", and you begin to question yourself; perhaps you didn't hear the doorbell when letting the dog out the back door? In the meantime the poor dog is unaware of your resentment building up towards him (it is his fault after all) and keeps his eyes transfixed on the lead hanging by the door, in hope for a walk sometime soon. In the end it all becomes too much and you wish you had never ordered it in the first place! But lo and behold, at one minute to 5 a tired and grumbling delivery driver knocks unenthusiastically at the door and seems less than sympathetic to hear about your day's events.
So without wishing to digress, we have a new & improved DPD courier service to ensure that you experience a stress-free delivery as possible and receive your shoes without a hitch!

Once your shoes have been dispatched from our warehouse DPD will e-mail you with your unique tracking number as well as you specified delivery date. Following this, on the day your shoes are due to be delivered, DPD will e-mail you a second time with your unique one hour time-slot. If this is not convenient, you have the option to re-arrange your delivery to a more suitable time. For more information about our new & improved DPD service click here. However, if you do know that you will not be available to sign for the parcel or if you have any instructions for the DPD delivery driver please indicate so when placing your order. © 2010 by A.
